THE DEBATE
OMG - I just did this ENTIRE post about the presidential debate and I lost it!!! I am SUCH a moron...
But not as much of a moron as our President George dubbya. He's so not smart at all... I can't stand him. He can't even speak right.
I don't understand how anyone can possibly support this man. Yeah, neither of them are fabulous - but does anyone ever really LOVE a candidate? No. It's like picking the lesser of the two evils - and Kerry is BY FAR the better man for the job.
Here's my little rant about the issues... and please don't be mean lol... I am not a political expert, but I have been paying attention to the debates and I think I know a little bit about where the candidates stand on the things that are most important.
1. Prescription drugs. John Kerry wants to lift the ban on importing prescription drugs from Canada. They are safe - otherwise I don't think they'd be legal in Canada. When GWB talks about it he makes it seem like they're coming from some 3rd world, non-industrialized, country. There are pharamacists, doctors, and scientists in Canada who are perfectly capable of providing safe medicines... seriously. It will make for competition in the market which will keep the costs lower. The bottom line is, the lobbyists for the drug companies do not want any competition from Canada. They want to keep the prices high so they can make money. Plain and simple. Meanwhile, our grandparents are spending their life savings on medicines instead of enjoying their retirements!
2. Assault weapons. Isn't it funny that GWB is SOOOOO concerned about DANGEROUS PRESCRIPTION DRUGS coming into this country from Canada, but he's perfectly cool with MAKING THE MOST DANGEROUS ASSAULT WEAPONS LEGAL!!!! Yes, the ban on assault weapons was just lifted. It was passed by Clinton in an effort to get the most dangerous weapons off the streets. Of course there is always going to be a black market, but at least they became a lot harder to obtain. Plus - HOMELAND SECURITY!?!?! This dude is fighting the "War on Terror" - but just lifted a ban on assault weapons that terrorists who do LIVE AMONG US would love to get their hands on! Instead of making them have to jump through hoops to get them - let's just put them on sale wherever so they can legally buy one! WTF??????
3. Abortion. I personally think abortion is wrong. I would never have one. However, I do believe women should have the right to choose. GWB was flat out asked tonight if he wants Roe vs. Wade overturned and he AVOIDED THE QUESTION ENTIRELY. He didn't say "yes" and he didn't say "no". He said he wouldn't have a "litmus test" for Supreme Court appointments. John Kerry answered the question well. He was honest. He said that while he is a Catholic and follows his faith, his job as a public servant is not to impose his beliefs on others. End of story. Abortion, to me, is horrible - but it should be legal.
4. Gay marriage. OK, for whatever reason both candidates are against this so I don't know why they even brought it up... but the question of whether or not they think gay people choose to be gay was asked. George Bush doesn't know if gay people choose to be gay. I mean, how ignorant can one be?!?! Seriously. I am not gay so I can't speak for gay people, but I don't know any gay person who just decided to BE gay. You can't make me gay, I couldn't be gay if I wanted to, I am straight - so why would anyone think that gay people choose to be gay? If anything, people who know they are gay try to be straight because of society, their families, etc. Just ridiculous. John Kerry is at least enlightened enough to know that being gay is not a choice. Nobody sits around and thinks about making the switch LOL. If you disagree with me and are a gay person who chose to be gay even though you are actually really straight, please email me and let me know what led you to your decision. I would love to meet a straight man or woman who just woke up one day and decided that even though they don't have any attaction to the same sex at all they just decided they'd pretend to. WHAT? Yeah, exactly. When you start to examine the issue it becomes ridiculous... but GWB thinks maybe gay people chose to be gay. Whatever.
5. The 9/11 thing. OK. This is a sensitive issue... but John Kerry put it all into perspective tonight. The president did a great job of speaking after the terrorist attacks. He did what he was supposed to do as a leader - made a good speech to make the American people feel it would be "OK". He said all the right things and the country came together. But that was 3 years ago. It's time to stop dwelling on a speech he gave 3 years ago and how he handled the attacks and talk about what he's going to do for the people who live here NOW. So concerned about homeland security after the attacks... but lifts the ban on the most dangerous weapons. So concerned about the American people and their "security" but he's sending our jobs overseas and refusing to let us have prescription drugs at affordable prices.
6. The chuckle. Yeah, he's got a creepy old man chuckle.
That's all.
